About the NDIS
The NDIS is a progressive initiative of the Australian Government, extending essential support to people with permanent and significant disabilities. The NDIS empowers participants by providing access to services, supports, and funding, helping them live a more independent and enriched life.
The scheme not only supports individuals with disabilities but also plays a crucial role for families and carers, enabling them to provide better care while their loved ones thrive. With the NDIS, participants have greater control and choice over how support is delivered, allowing them to tailor their care to best suit their personal needs and goals.
Who is Eligible for the NDIS?
- Participants must
- Be under 65 years old when applying.
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a Protected Special Category Visa.
- Have a condition resulting in a permanent and significant disability that restricts their ability to perform everyday activities.

How Does the NDIS Work?
Once eligible, participants work with the NDIS to create a personalised plan outlining their goals and the types of support needed. This plan is regularly reviewed to ensure it continues to meet their changing needs. Participants can choose to manage their plan themselves, with a plan manager, or through the NDIA.
The Role of the NDIA
The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is responsible for administering the NDIS. Funded by the Australian Government, the NDIA ensures the NDIS delivers quality services and outcomes while providing education and resources to the wider community.
The NDIS is more than just funding—it empowers participants to shape their futures. Whether you need support for daily living, health services, employment, or community involvement, the NDIS is here to help you reach your full potential and live as independently as possible.
